Premiere: Retail Space - "Blue Jeans"

Watch the new nature-filled video for Retail Space's "Blue Jeans."

Brooklyn synth-pop duo Retail Space has a knack for creating captivating, infectious pop songs that can trick you into missing what’s bubbling underneath. In their sophomore release, You Can Catch A Lobster With Eggs But Not Egg Salad, Isabelle Burnet and Jacob Rosse craft lush songs about bittersweet change and making connections with both lovers and friends. The duo embraces new beginnings on the track “Blue Jeans” while testifying to past devotion over a broken relationship. Burnet carries wry observations of feelings as she sings, “Hand me downs and favorite jeans / They all get worn down to the seams / Like you and me.”A pair of worn-out pants becomes a metaphor for an ailing relationship, with the torn edges leaving a shape of someone important but absent. Her voice soars with self-aware and deliberate reflections on outgrowing a relationship. In the debut music video for “Blue Jeans,” the band walks straight into the wilderness, smiling together on Australian beaches and driving through the forest. It’s a video filled with sweeping visions of beauty and nature while juxtaposed with the lingering memories over what's disappeared. It's a bittersweet, uplifting song with an equally fascinating video to accompany it.

Retail Space on "Blue Jeans":

When making the video for 'Blue Jeans,' we realized we had several hours of video footage from a recent trip to Australia while visiting Izzy’s family. Since all of the shots had a warm distant look to them, we felt like they worked well depicting the old life the character in the song was leaving behind.”
