Monday Mix: GRRRL FEST

Get your butt to GRRRL FEST this weekend.

I stumbled upon the GRRRL FEST Facebook event by accident after a friend probably said they were going. The name immediately stood out to me, and after reading the event description, I immediately clicked "Attending." GRRRL FEST is a day-long event taking place on June 14 that was organized by a group of girls at NYC's The Beacon School and along with volunteers. Their goal is to create an empowering atmosphere for all women through music, dance, poetry, and art. The festival's activities include crafts, dancing, book sale, art sale, zine sale, t-shirt making, jewelry making, glitter tattoos, hair braiding, tarot cards, poetry, a silent auction, and a more. There are over 20 musical acts performing, including Potty Mouth, Palehound, Shellshag, and Fleabite. I have the utmost admiration for these girls, and am so excited to attend GRRRL FEST.

If you can't make it to the festival (but also if you can!), please enjoy this mix the GRRRL FEST organizers made a mix for THE LE SIGH!

GRRRL FEST organizers on their mix:
"We are the next generation of feminists and this is what we listen to. There's some old and lots of new-- ladies of all walks of life. They make us dance and they carry us through the trials of teenagedom. Featuring our very own PetalWar and Potty Mouth, who will be playing at Grrrl Fest, this mix is just a few of our favorite woman humz. The artists sing about power and art and sex and NYC, just as it should be. We are honored to be featured on The Le Sigh, who is really at the forefront of the Fourth Wave of Feminism!! Enjoy."
