Illuminati Girl Gang's second volume is on sale now.
Illuminati Girl Gang (IGG) is an all-female, alt lit zine curated by Gabby Gabby, the author of a few (really neat) e-books and chapbooks. IGG is composed of a large network of girl writers from all over – Gabby usually finds them somewhere on the vast Tumblrsphere. We haven't looked into the first issue (it's sold out) but from the looks of Vol. 2, we're pleased. We're excited about this zine because it promotes a very sacred thing that THE LE SIGH cares about – giving girls an accessible space for their art.
The cover (left) is rad, and the inside content lives up to its high expectations. The zine is 89 full-color pages of short stories, comics, collages, poetry, and photography from a variety of female perspectives: Mira Gonzalez, Jennifer Chan, Bunny Rogers, Emma Dajska, Ann Hirsch, Maggie Lee, Chelle Whitchurch, Roxane Gay, xTx, and more. You can expect a lot of free verse pieces, sex, heartbreak, and collages. The words and images speak for themselves – often unapologetically blunt, but almost always sincere. As a twenty-something-year-old girl, I could undoubtedly relate, and I'm not sorry that I spent hours cuddling with a cat and reading through each page, and then another few hours getting lost on some of these girls' individual Tumblrs. Click here to peek inside (this is fun and worth doing, I promise).
This is the first zine that THE LE SIGH has had the pleasure to review. Zines are most certainly the next thing we'd like to explore as a series. If you (or any of your friends) have a zine that you'd like us to write about – please contact email@example.com.
