FMLY Fest 6/21 to 6/23

The touring festival makes a stop in Brooklyn this weekend.

It's officially summer! And do you know what that means? Unbearable heat, ice pops, and music festivals! But before you start booking your road trips to get to Chicago for Pitchfork and Lollapalooza or California for FYF Fest and Outside Lands, there are some pretty awesome, D.I.Y. festivals that could be happening in your very own city, such as FMLY Fest.

I'm going to keep this short since FMLY Fest is going on at this very minute at 13 Thames in Brooklyn.  FMLY Fest is an offshoot of the blog, The FMLY, which is/was used to cultivate a collaborative community of artists, designers, musicians, and more, while also writing about some pretty great music- but I'll write more about that when I recap tonight's show on Monday. The first FMLY Fest took place in L.A. a few years ago, but the festival has now made its way all the way to the East Coast and is bringing some very talented bands along the way. Tonight and tomorrow night there will be shows at Shea Stadium featuring Truman Peyote, Little Spoon, Birthdays, Farms, and many many more. In addition to the night shows, there will also be a shows and workshops in Bohemian grove in Bushwick. There is tons of more information on the Facebook page, which can be found here.

One of the best parts about FMLY Fest and The FMLY in general is their dedication to bringing people of similar interests together to encourage creativity and ensure that D.I.Y. culture is alive and well. They're not just putting on shows like most festivals - they're teaching the audience how to make zines, throw house shows, and the importance of all age shows. I can't even tell you how necessary this is in our day and age, but I can tell you to definitely check out FMLY Fest if you're in Brooklyn or New York. Unfortunately, we missed the first day of the festival due to demanding internships but we will be there tonight for the show at Shea Stadium (which is why this post is so short), so if you see us, please say hi! And make sure to drink stay hydrated, because it is fucking hot in New York.
